An unusually large number: 40 landowners come together for a joint nature conservation project

World news

A new grassland will promote biodiversity and ensure high-quality beef. At least 40 landowners have agreed on that.

During the winter, 33 kilometers of fences were put up along the Storåen, where an area of 148 hectares, in the sign of nature, must have a helping hand. The helping hand consists of a herd of cattle that must graze the large area, thus taking on the role of nature caretakers.

– I think it’s really good that some animals come down here, says Niels Vinkler Lassen, who is one of the landowners who have laid out land for the project.

Many landowners in great cooperation

The grazing project at Storåen takes place across cadastral boundaries, and the aim is to care for and improve the current nature at the same time as producing local beef.

The project area follows the Storåen on an approximately 9 kilometer stretch located between Herning, Sunds and Ikast.

There are 40 landowners involved in the project, which with its size constitutes a significant part of the green, local transformation. But it has required a lot of coffee talk to get all landowners on board with the idea.

– I think that the idea of combining nature care with the production of good beef is just too good not to agree to, because it just makes good sense, but it has required a lot of back and forth, says Karsten Villumsen, who is initiator of the project.
