Ilgaz, the highest mountain in the Western Black Sea Region, is among the indispensable parts of winter tourism. Ilgaz Mountain, on the borders of Kastamonu and Çankırı, is located 40 kilometers from Kastamonu center, 200 kilometers from Ankara and 450 kilometers from Istanbul, and became one of the easily accessible ski resorts after the construction of Kastamonu Airport.
Ilgaz Mountain Ski Center and Yurduntepe Ski Center, which has a 5.6-kilometer track opened in 2020, host local and foreign visitors from many cities of the country, especially Istanbul and Ankara, every year. Visitors who spend time skiing, snowboarding and sledding in the centers on Ilgaz Mountain also have the opportunity to walk among the natural beauties.
Ilgaz Mountain has a bed capacity of approximately 1300 in 7 facilities belonging to public institutions and the private sector. The Administration also operates the Yurduntepe Ski Center, which was built on the mountain by the Special Provincial Administration 4 years ago.
Nida Sinsi, Secretary General of Kastamonu Special Provincial Administration, told the AA reporter that they built Yurduntepe Ski Center with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Stating that the facility built on Ilgaz Mountain has positively affected the tourism in the region, Sinsi said, “We think that environmental tourism adds a lot to Kastamonu. We operate the facility for the most part with our own staff and some of it through an operator.” said.
Stating that interest in the region has increased, Sinsi said, “We hosted approximately 100 thousand visitors in Ilgaz in the 2023-2024 season. 5 thousand of these were our guests who came during the Eid al-Fitr holiday. We are very happy that those who came left with great satisfaction.” he said.
Giving information about Yurduntepe facilities, Sinsi said, “The Ski Center is located approximately 6 kilometers away from the old facilities in Ilgaz. There are two mechanical facilities. One has 6 chairs and is 2 thousand 100 meters long. The other one has 4 chairs and is 1100 meters long. Here We have two daily facilities and a cafeteria. The total length of the facility is around 5,600 meters. It has a much longer runway than similar ski slopes in the region. It is also a very good facility in terms of snow quality.
