Tyler James Williams’ parents are talented singers who have worked with a few big names in Hollywood. The couple has guided their sons’ successful acting careers and has celebrated over three decades of marriage and four decades together.

Tyler James Williams’ parents, Angela J. and Leroy C. Williams, are talented singers who have even written a song together. During their relationship—which stretches back 43 years—the couple has welcomed three sons, all known for their impressive acting careers.

While Leroy C. Williams served as a police officer for over twenty years, his wife has overseen their three sons’ acting endeavors. Angela J. Williams is also a decorated philanthropist and church leader.

Tyler James Williams’ Parents Have Musical Backgrounds

In October 2018, Angela took to Instagram to post a throwback of her and her husband in each other’s arms, and in the background, “Heaven” played, the first and only song she and Leroy had written together. Angela shared:

“He is my biggest songwriting fan and my forever home studio engineer. Late one night, I heard him upstairs playing around with sounds on some new equipment we had just bought, and I went upstairs humming this melody.”

During an appearance on Jennifer Hudson’s talk show, Angela and Leroy’s eldest revealed that the couple had formerly performed as background singers for Luther Vandross and Patti LaBelle. “I come from a singing family,” Tyler said.

Angela J. Williams Also Has a Background in Acting

When Angela was younger, she tried her hand at acting in commercials but did not enjoy the experience. However, when her eldest son was four—before Angela took him out of public school and homeschooled him—he told his mom that he wanted to be an actor after seeing Will Smith in “Men in Black.”

Unlike Angela, who was a gospel singer and minister, Tyler enjoyed acting, and his mother oversaw his career. And watching her sons navigate the entertainment industry at a young age prompted Angela to write the book “My Child is Going to Be Rich & Famous: How to Successfully Balance Family, Parenting, and Entertainment.”

Aside from homeschooling her children, guiding their careers, and her work in the church, Angela also gives back to her community and saw her efforts rewarded when she was honored at the 2nd annual Dream, Purpose, and Passion Gala benefiting the foster care system. Angela shared:

“Mentoring, counseling, and pouring into others is one of my greatest passions, so to be recognized for what most people don’t know or see is an honor.”

Leroy C. Williams Was a Sergeant before He Started His Own Business

After earning a degree in Public Administration at John Jay College, Leroy served as a law enforcement officer at the New York City Police Department for over 20 years. He later opened his own cleaning business before venturing into higher education.

After obtaining his Master of Jurisprudence, a law degree from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law, Leroy began working as a lecturer at the Queensborough Community College for five years and currently holds a role as a professor at Monroe College. However, according to his son, Leroy and his family have not lost touch with their love of music. Tyler said:

“… We are constantly putting on concerts… we were just putting on a jam session yesterday, and it’s just kind of what we do.”

Tyler James Williams’ Parents Were by His Side during His Battle with Chromes Disease

In 2018, Angela and Leroy’s eldest son opened up about his struggles with Chromes Disease and revealed that his parents had greatly supported him. From 19 to 23, the actor suffered weekly flare-ups that turned into daily ones. The “Everybody Hates Chris” star also underwent three surgeries in three months and dropped forty pounds.

Fortunately, Tyler James Williams had his parents by his side. “I have to give a huge thanks to my family. They stepped up in a situation that was very, very difficult. It can’t be easy to watch. It wasn’t easy to live, so it definitely cannot be easy to watch,” Tyler shared.
