Geranium is a wonderful plant for your garden and it is almost a must to include it in it. There are two popular varieties of this plant – pelargonium – also called tender geranium, and native geranium, which is a hardy perennial. These plants attract pollinators and make a wonderful addition to the flower garden. Read on to find out how to take good care of geraniums.
Geranium care
Caring for geraniums is easy, but there are a few rules to follow to be successful.
How to grow a traditional geranium in the garden
Light
The geranium likes the sun, so find a sunny spot for it in your garden – at least 6 hours a day. Some varieties, such as ivy geranium, require less light.
Water
Keep the top 2.5 cm of the soil moist, but do not overwater because overwatering is very harmful to the flower. Choose well-draining soil and pots with drainage holes to keep the plant healthy. Overdrying and overwatering are equally unfavorable.
Soil
Choose a well-draining, high-quality soil for your geranium.
Why you should not grow geraniums in your home?
Thor
Fertilize monthly with a balanced, all-purpose liquid 20-20-20 fertilizer. This provides useful amounts of potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen.
Temperature
If indoors, geranium grows best at a temperature between 15 and 26 degrees.
