Regular defrosting of the freezer part of the refrigerator or a separate device is a necessity, which ensures a long life, proper functioning, but also low consumption. You can easily prevent icing and make demanding maintenance easier. We’ll show you how to take care of your freezer.

How to properly defrost

For proper defrosting, which is also a necessary stage before preparing the freezer for anti-icing treatment, you first need to unload the entire contents. For this, you can prepare an external cooling box in advance or freeze special pads and cooling plates. You have the least amount of work in the winter and at times when the freezer is not completely full.

Then put a large number of cloths and towels in the freezer box without drawers. You can help rapid defrosting by placing bowls of hot water on the shelves, which you will change regularly. Defrosting with a hair dryer is super fast.

Clean empty drawers and shelves thoroughly, rinse with vinegar and dry.

De-icing agents

You prepare the interior of the freezer, which is free of ice, dry and treated with a vinegar solution, in such a way as to avoid future frost. The first option is to mix baking soda in water and wipe the interior of the freezer with the solution. This will slow down the formation of ice.

Glycerin is an effective protection against frost. It is enough to paint it in the freezer compartment and you will be protected against frost. Common cooking oil is also a simple and inexpensive remedy against ice crusts. You can apply it by spraying and spread it in places where ice forms the most.

How to properly care for the freezer

Freezing is not without high energy consumption, but you can help the device. There must be enough space between the cooler and the wall to prevent the device from heating up from the outside. It is advisable to have the freezer in a cooler place, for example in the corridor. Do not place it next to a heater, oven, cooking center or dishwasher.

Check the seals on the door, replace worn ones. Never put warm food in the freezer, the freezer should always be full (even if you put water bottles inside). Make sure the temperature in the freezer is between -15 and -18 degrees.

When buying a new appliance, check its energy efficiency and whether it is equipped with the No Frost function.
