HAMEL, Brother Luc
1931 – 2024
On May 2, 2024, Br. Luc Hamel, Dominican, died at the Infirmary of the Seminary of Saint-Hyacinthe. Born in Pierreville on July 3, 1931, he was the son of Gaston Hamel and Léonia Hamel. After his primary studies in Pierreville and his secondary studies at the Séminaire de Nicolet. On September 6, 1931, he presented himself at the Dominican Convent in Saint-Hyacinthe where he was admitted as a postulant. He wore the Dominican habit there on March 6, 1952. The following year, March 7, 1953, he made his simple profession and his solemn profession on March 7, 1959. From 1953 to 2004, he held several services in the Saint-Jean Convents -Baptist of Ottawa, Notre-Dame-de-Grâce in Montreal, Saint-Dominique in Quebec, Reine-du-Rosaire and Fatima in Montreal, Saint-Albert-le-Grand in Montreal, and the Houses of Sherbrooke and Berthierville. He also participated in several organizations during his years of assignment in Montreal. It provides support to Résidence Bon-Secours, Les Pionniers de Notre-Dame-des-Neiges, Maison du Partage d’Youville Inc., Aliments-partage Inc., and to the physically handicapped at Maison Accueil Soleil-Levant in Montreal. From 1996 to 2004, he took care of the Résidence Chez Luc. In 2004, he retired to the Saint-Albert-le-Grand Convent in Montreal. On December 22, 2014, he was assigned to the Maison du Très-Saint-Rosaire in Saint-Hyacinthe with permission to reside at the Seminary of Saint-Hyacinthe. We thank the Infirmary staff for the care they have provided to him since he has been there.

starting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. His funeral will be celebrated in the Seminary Chapel, Wednesday, May 8 at 1:30 p.m. The funeral will be followed by burial in the Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire Parish cemetery. The conduct of the funeral was entrusted to the
