Rock Musician. A drummer, he will be remembered for his work with The Turtles, Jefferson Airplane/Starship and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Raised in Nutley, New Jersey, his father was the proprietor of a gas station, John learned the drums during his youth and at the age of seventeen, he joined the group The Sentinals who scored a regional hit (California) with the single At Tinia’s in 1962.. In 1966, he moved on to The Turtles in time to record their signature hit Happy Together which achieved a number one placing on the American Pop Charts during 1967. He went on to record on Linda Ronstadt’s first solo album Hand Sown….Home Grown (1969), and two later Jefferson Airplane albums Long John Silver (1972) and Thirty Seconds Over Winterland (1973). He recorded with David Crosby & Graham Nash and contributed to the Top 40 single Immigration Man (1972) and was a mainstay with Jefferson Starship for six of their studio albums. Other artists he worked with include John Sebastian, The Everly Brothers and Johnny Rivers.
