At approximately 12:26 p.m., the public was informed that there had been one fatality at Ohio State’s commencement. The person’s identity is not yet known to the general public. Around 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, the person fell from the Bell Tower side of the Shoe and died, according to Ohio State officials.
Officers were observed displacing graduates and their families who were observing the scene from the southeast side of the shoe and directing them toward Tuttle Park Place’s sidewalk.
Officers reported that numerous bystanders were crying and that many of them were using their phones. “They just said someone jumped,” remarked one person.
