The King is featured on the obverse of the 50p coin, while its reverse is dedicated to the life and legacy of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.

To begin with, around 9.6 million 50p coins will enter circulation based on demand and need. A commemorative version of the coin was presented in October, which caused a record number of visitors to the website of the Royal Mint, writes BTA.

The image of the monarch featured on the coin, which he personally approved, was created by sculptor Martin Jennings.

The coins follow a centuries-old tradition and feature King Charles III facing left, in the opposite direction of the previous monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. All British coins bearing her likeness will remain in circulation and continue to be legal tender.
