Development of national nuclear infrastructures in CIS states discussed

MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – A videoconference meeting of the expert group the CIS member states have entrusted with reconciling the draft regulation on a CIS base organization in the area of development of national nuclear infrastructures took place at the Moscow branch of the CIS Executive Committee on 29 March, the Economic Cooperation Department of the CIS Executive Committee told BelTA.

The regulation was put together in furtherance of the action plan on realizing the program on developing the national nuclear infrastructures in the CIS member states. The program was adopted by the CIS Economic Council on 2 December 2022. Taking part in the videoconference meeting were representatives of Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the CIS Commission on Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy, and the CIS Executive Committee. Participants of the meeting discussed submitted proposals and worked out a coordinated version of the document.

AO Rusatom Service, which is part of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom, is supposed to become the base organization in this field. The company’s competences and experience can contribute to interaction between the CIS states with a view to developing the national nuclear infrastructures and programs on peaceful uses of nuclear technologies in the CIS space in compliance with international safety standards. The approved draft regulation on the CIS base organization in the area of development of national nuclear infrastructures is supposed to be submitted for consideration of the CIS Economic Council according to the established procedure.
