1. Vegetables

After staying for some time in the refrigerator, the mushrooms acquire a slimy layer and a stale smell. To store them successfully, first place in a paper bag.

It is good to leave the tomatoes at room temperature instead of in the refrigerator. Stack them with the stems down to reduce the amount of moisture that evaporates. Also remove the leaves from the carrots, otherwise they continue to suck up nutrients.

If you want to store pumpkin in the refrigerator, you can coat it with a thin layer of olive oil or oil. Thus, the vegetable remains in good condition for months.

Sometimes it’s hard to keep lettuce leaves fresh. To prevent them from wilting prematurely, wrap a slightly moistened paper or cloth around the stem of the lettuce. If they have already started to sprout, you can revive them by placing the whole vegetable in ice water for 5-10 minutes.

2. Animal products

Fish can be kept longer if you place it on a bowl of ice in the refrigerator. If you are not using the raw meat in the first 1-2 days, wrap in aluminum foil or a ziplock bag and transfer to the freezer.

3. Dry products

Keep the bugs at bay by putting a little bay leaf in the jars where you store flour, rice or granola.

If your salt often gets lumpy, put a few grains of rice in the salt shaker. They help absorb moisture.

Bread rarely keeps longer when it’s in the fridge. In fact, moisture often contributes to its spoilage or deterioration. It is best stored at room temperature, wrapped in a towel in a bread box or cupboard.
