Single people on New Year’s Eve should fulfill their wishes and listen to themselves. Elena Razumova, a senior lecturer at the Department of Psychotherapy and Psychological Counseling at the Moscow Institute of Psychoanalysis, gave such advice for welcoming the New Year’s holiday.

“It’s important to be in touch with yourself and be honest with yourself. The main rule is not to force yourself and not to do what is not in harmony with you now. You have to listen to yourself and find out what you want this New Year’s Eve. Perhaps this answer to the question will surprise you, it may even please you,” suggested the specialist.

She explained that as soon as one listens to oneself, one will be able to understand what one really wants on this holiday. Someone may feel tired and go to bed early, someone, on the contrary, may ask for something unusual for the holiday, for example, to go to a party at a yoga center, and someone just wants to go for a walk.

Razumova’s main recommendation is to take ownership of your life into your own hands and organize a holiday for yourself.

She noted that people often seek positive emotions from helping others. “Sometimes they go to an orphanage or a nursing home and organize events there. This is a very effective way to shift from focusing on yourself and your suffering to what you can give to the world,” said the psychologist, quoted by Russian media.

In turn, consultant Ilya Shabshin at the Volkhonka Psychological Center emphasized that those who are alone for the holidays should listen to themselves and not follow any trends. “We should be happy that I am the one who can make the decision that suits me. It is not a tragedy that there will be no ritual, these are all patterns. I can make a choice that suits me,” explained Shabshin.

Earlier, the clinical psychologist Assoc. Alexey Melekhin talked about how to deal with the New Year’s anxiety syndrome, which arises when we try to arrange the plans and complete all the tasks for the holiday. The candidate of psychological sciences recommended “slowing down” and first determining the five most important things to do before the New Year.
