The conclusions that were drawn were that people’s positive attitude was associated with a one-third reduction in coronary events, including heart attacks and the need for bypass surgery. Among those at greatest risk of heart attack, there was a nearly 50 percent reduction. The tests take into account factors for heart disease, including age, smoking status, diabetes, high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.
