Remember 7 school tricks that still work

Some everyday tricks are so practical and easy that they can benefit more than one generation. Over time, they are somehow forgotten and become what we now call grandma’s advice.

We want to remember the past and go back to childhood with these 7 useful tricks.

1. Determine the time before sunset.

Touch your fingers together and extend your hand forward so that the sun rests on the index finger. Now count the fingers to the horizon line. Each of them represents nearly 15 minutes of time until sunset. You can find a detailed description of the method here.

2. Learn the days of the month.

Make a fist and start counting the months on your knuckles. Each bump and dip is a separate month. If you only count on one hand, then once you reach the end, start again with the index knuckles. A bump means that the month has 31 days, and a depression means that it has 30 or less.

3. Find out if the moon is waxing or waning.

To teach your child to determine the phase of the moon, use the shape of the letters D, O, and C. The full moon is O, the first quarter is D, and the third is C.

4. Check the quality of the battery.

You can easily tell if a battery is full or not. Just lift it about 1-2 centimeters off the table and let it go. If it bounces and falls, it’s empty.

5. Teach the child to multiply with fingers.

Usually, children quickly remember multiplication with small numbers, but they have difficulty with the numbers 6,7,8 and 9. To help your little one in this endeavor, teach him the following trick.

Turn your palms towards your face. Number each toe (from 6 to 10) starting with the little finger. Now, for example, to multiply 7 by 8, connect finger #7 on the left hand with finger #8 on the right. The number of fingers in the lower part, together with the connected ones, is 5. As for the fingers located in the upper part, they must be multiplied among themselves (in our case, 3X2). Answer: 7×8=56. This way you can quickly multiply by 6, 7 and 8.

Your cat probably keeps track of where you are, even if you’re not in the same room as her, and even if she can’t see you. A recent study of…

To multiply by 9, you need to do the following. Open your palms and place them on the table. Now, to multiply any number by 9, simply lift the corresponding finger slightly. The fingers before it show the number of tens, and after it – the ones. For example, to multiply 7 times 9, raise the 7th finger. There are 6 before it, and 3 after it. We get the answer: 7×9=63.

6. Measure the approximate length of an object.

If you need to measure the approximate length of an object but don’t have a ruler, you can use the fingers of one hand. According to average human proportions, the distance between the tip of the thumb and the index finger is about 18 centimeters, and that between the thumb and the little finger is about 20 centimeters. Of course, this method is not accurate because each of us has a different hand size. However, it can be useful if you need to measure a large object with a small line: just calculate the distance between your fingers in advance.

7. Determine the degrees of the angles.

Spread your fingers and place your palm on the surface whose angle you want to measure. The puppy should lie at the bottom: it shows 0°. The angle between the thumb and little finger is 90°, and between the other fingers 30°, 45° and 60°, respectively.
