What we are observing this August — Seed Savers Exchange Blog

Оther news

August is when the seeds truly start to give with abundance, when (if Mother Nature has also been generous!) our garden harvests become truly beautiful and bountiful. It is a time when we give thanks to the seeds for all they give us and begin to prepare for the winter ahead. It is a time to plan for our future, and—if we are harvesting seeds as well as produce—a time to begin safeguarding the seeds for the future as well. Whether we are doing this for this first or the 45th time, the challenges we continue to face together make this labor of love seem more vital than ever before.

August is also National Make-a-Will Month, an event that encourages every American to plan for their future in another way, by creating an estate plan. If we’ve learned anything in the past year and a half, it’s that life can change quickly. And because of that fact, it’s important to take stock and make plans for the people and causes you love the most.

Seed Savers Exchange is pleased to participate in National Make-a-Will Month by partnering with FreeWill to provide you with the opportunity to create your will free of charge or obligation.

As we begin to collectively harvest the seeds that will guide us through future growing seasons, we at Seed Savers Exchange give thanks for you and everyone else in this community helping us preserve and share seeds and their stories. And that is just one reason that we are offering this gift to you.

Seed Savers Exchange’s stewardship of a living collection of seeds, plants, and trees must continue into perpetuity, but it’s work that we can’t do without the support of a larger network, including you. As we share seeds today, we are also preserving them for future generations. And we are doing this with the support of a broad and diverse community that is regenerating, saving, and sharing seeds alongside us; giving gifts of time, resources and expertise; and spreading the word about why the mission of Seed Savers Exchange to preserve the cultural distinctiveness and biodiversity of the seeds are so important.

Thank you for all you do for the seeds and the people who steward them. We are grateful you are part of this community!
