Imagine having the perfect Saturday night. All the worries of the past week are behind you: thoughts of work finally fly away and you are together with your partner. You decide to make the night romantic. You go to the store, pick up a bottle of wine and suddenly realize you don’t have a corkscrew. Don’t worry because we have the right tips for you. Fortunately, it turns out that you can use almost anything at hand to open the bottle.

1. Screw and flat pliers.

Find a screw and flat nose pliers. The bigger the screw head, the better. Take it and insert it into the cork so that it protrudes about 1.5 centimeters above it. Use flat nose pliers to pull the screw out along with the plug. If you don’t have pliers, you can use a tile cutter.

2. Pocket knife.

You can remove the cork from a bottle of wine using a regular pocket knife. The blade should be small enough to fit in the neck of the bottle. Some people recommend using a pocket knife with a serrated blade. Carefully insert the knife into the cork. Now move it from left to right. Gently pull the cap upwards to open the bottle. Note: If you accidentally put the knife in the cork at an angle, very carefully try to press the bottle against a flat surface while trying to pull the cork. The neck of the bottle can easily break.

3. Wire and flat pliers.

You need a piece of steel wire (for example, the kind used to make clothes hangers). If necessary, straighten it. Use pliers to bend the wire at an angle less than 30 degrees. Carefully slide the wire between the edge of the cork and the neck of the bottle until the hook passes under the cork. If you want, you can wear gloves to reduce the friction of the wire with the skin of the hands.

4. Paper clip and pen.

Take two paper clips and a pen. Unfold the paper clips, leaving only the U-shape at either end. Slide one paperclip between the stopper and the neck of the glass bottle. When it reaches the end of the plug, twist it to form a grip to pull it out. Do the same with the other paper clip. Grab the two ends sticking out at the top and twist them. Then push a pen or pencil through the hole and gently pull the plug out.

5. Screw and corn holder.

If you replace the flat nose pliers with a corn cob holder and use it in combination with a screw, you can end up with something similar to a T-shaped corkscrew. The screw has the function of a horizontal part of the plug and a vertical part of the holder. Remember, the corncob holder must be smaller than the screw head. Carefully press the screw into the cap. Use the corn cob holder so that its two spikes grip the screw head firmly. Use your index and middle finger to pull the corn cob holder. This way you can safely remove the cap from the bottle.

6. Knife and pen.

This method involves pushing the cork into the bottle. Pierce the cork with something sharp. This will depressurize the bottle before pushing the cap. Place the bottle on the floor or any other hard, stable or horizontal surface. Press the cork down using a pen or other object that is not sharp and has an appropriate width compared to that of the cork.

7. Goat’s foot type hammer and small nails.

Carefully drive the nails into the cork, lining them up with a little space between them. Use the hammer head as an effective lever. Pull the cap off the bottle and…when you finally open it…it’s time to pour yourself a glass and relax…
