Australian brothers Jake and Callum Robinson, 30 and 33, and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, disappeared on April 27 while on a surfing trip in Ensenada, Mexico. When their bodies were found in a four meter deep well, it was discovered that all three had been shot in the head.

The police’s theory is that they were shot in connection with trying to fend off an attempted theft of the tires on their pickup truck, according to Maria Andrade, prosecutor in Baja California.
Three suspects have been arrested on suspicion of direct or indirect involvement in the attack.
The FBI was involved in the case early on, the BBC writes, among others.

Baja California is one of Mexico’s most violent states, where local criminal gangs fight over the drug market.

However, the Ensenada area, which is about 120 kilometers south of the US-Mexico border and is known for its surfing conditions, has previously been considered safer and has ¤nge attracted tourists from California.
