The pictures from Elkhorn, a suburb of Omaha in Nebraska show how a tornado passed over a residential area and left it in ruins. It is one of several places that have been threatened by tens of tornadoes that have followed each other since last Friday, when the storm chaos began in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Buildings were torn apart with people inside, CNN reports, after one of the tornadoes crossed the I-80 freeway.

Cars and airplanes were overturned even when wind speeds of between 60 and 80 meters per second were recorded in the storms.
