It has not been a fun start to the football season for Kalmar, who parked in 16th and last place before Saturday’s meeting with Halmstad. This after, among other things, having lost all three games at home.

Now 4,735 spectators came to Guldfågeln arena and they got to see two twists and turns.

First, HBK’s Viktor Granath scored two goals that gave the visitors the lead at the break, despite Simon Skrabb’s early goal for Kalmar.

Then there was Kalmar for the most powerful turnaround – with four mål in the second half.

Kevin Jensen became the goal scorer for the second game in a row when, after just over an hour of play, he lobbed a slightly strange 2–2 behind Tim Rönning.

Less than two minutes later, a harder shot found its way into the goal in front of the home team, when Skrabb found the net again. Dino Islamovic then scored 4–2 from a corner in the 73rd minute and put considerable pressure on Halmstad, second in the table.

When Jonathan Call diluted to 5–2 there was no longer any talk of the matter. Kalmar leaves last place to Västerå¥s – who face Djurgården on Sunday – and thanks to the victory also passes Värnamo in the table.

– Fantastically nice to get a win and I think we deserve it, says Dino Islamovic to Discovery+.

Mjällby was about to take over second place from Halmstad, but 1–0 after Silas Nwankwo’s lead goal did not last all the way at home against the Brommapojkarna. Nikola Vasic fixed the final score 1–1 in the 88th minute.
