The European Union is heading to take an important decision against Israel

The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, said on Thursday, February 15, 2024, that… the Union He will decide soon whether to suspend the trade agreement with Israel.

Borrell explained before the meeting of NATO defense ministers in the Belgian capital, Brussels, that the European Union is considering reviewing trade agreements with Israel, at the request of the Prime Ministers of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, and Leo Varadkar, Ireland, in their letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der. Line.

He said: “We are studying the two prime ministers’ message, and I will be able to tell you something about it soon.”

He stressed that the European Union will soon decide whether the (trade) agreement with Israel should be suspended or not.

It is worth noting that the Prime Ministers of Spain and Ireland requested, in a letter to the President of the European Commission, an “urgent review” of the trade agreement that grants Israel many privileges in the European Union market.

The message came against the backdrop of Israel’s continued attacks on the Palestinian Gaza Strip, and to determine whether Tel Aviv is violating human rights obligations and democratic principles within the framework of the agreement.

Regional and international warnings are mounting about the catastrophic repercussions of a possible Israeli invasion of the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, where there are at least 1.4 million Palestinians, including 1.3 million displaced as a result of a devastating war waged by the Israeli army on the Strip since last October 7.
