The S leader is right that Hungary should be excluded from the EU Рolitics

S-leader Magdalena Andersson (S) was right in her maiden speech when she said that Hungary is not a democracy.

In the past, among other things, Aftonbladet’s editorial page has written that Hungary is far from a democracy, that the government has close connections to Putin and Russia, and that Orbán’s actions in the EU are a Trojan horse from n Putin.

Nor does the EU Parliament regard Hungary as a democracy anymore, but considers the country to be a hybrid regime with parliamentary autocracy, that is to say a constitutional system where elections take place, but where respect for democratic norms and standards is lacking.

A telling example is that Hungary has attacked our freedom of press and expression. When the Hungarian government drew attention to a TV feature that Utbildningsradion made in 2019 about the flaws in Hungarian democracy, UR suddenly became a stick in the Swedish NATO process.

Hungary warned in a letter to the Swedish Foreign Minister Sweden that the UR element could have consequences for our entry into NATO. “We stand for UR’s mission and do not allow ourselves to be influenced,†said UR’s CEO Kalle Sandhammar.

Hungary is closer to Russia and Putin than the EU. The driving force for remaining in the EU is purely financial with all the contributions the country receives. Hungary should therefore be excluded from the EU.
