Bataille after poor performance: “That didn’t work”

Royal Antwerp FC played a very mediocre match against KV Mechelen. They rightly lost 0-1 against a strong KV Mechelen. Jelle Bataille spoke after the match about the defeat of the Great Old.

Antwerp did not convince

“I’m standing here with a bad feeling. We were able to get 12 out of 12 and it’s a shame that we lost here. It’s a shame about that penalty, but it slips away. We can’t blame Toby,” said the right back. Although that penalty should never have been called. De Cremer made a blunder there, because Slimani made no mistake.

Antwerp was very mediocre offensively. Combining opportunities was hardly possible. KV Mechelen had by far the best chances on the Bosuil. Bataille saw that too. The attacking plan at Antwerp didn’t really make sense.

Looking down for Antwerp

“I don’t think we really created any big chances together. We opted for the shot on goal too quickly. There were more options in the game and we were too hasty. At the end we dropped the balls to Toby, but KV Mechelen also had three towers there. So that didn’t work out well,” said Bataille DAZN.

Antwerp will have to pay attention again. We have to hope that Cercle Brugge and AA Gent do not win tomorrow, otherwise they will come within 2 points. At the top, Union SG (18 points) and Anderlecht (10 points) can also have a strong lead if they win their match.
