Borussia Dortmund: Brandt opens up about serious illness

Sport

Julian Brandt was absent from Borussia Dortmund for over two weeks due to a serious illness. The midfield strategist was hit hard. Brandt only celebrated his comeback in the 3-0 home win against SC Freiburg.

For a long time it was not known why Brandt actually failed. Now the Borussia Dortmund player spoke for the first time about the hard times. He revealed an incredible detail.

Borussia Dortmund: Brandt has lost almost six kilos

In the past three weeks, BVB has had to contend with a real wave of illness. With Mats Hummels, Marco Reus and Julian Brandt, three important players were missing due to illness. The latter now revealed how hard it had hit him.

“I was really knocked out for two weeks. I felt like I had the plague,” said Brandt on Monday in the Twitch live stream on “MontanaBlack” as part of the “Baller League” newly founded by Hummels and Lukas Podolski.

Brandt reported that it was not entirely clear what he had. Definitely a “hard flu. I had a fever for eight days.” The 27-year-old BVB star felt really bad. “I was dead. I lost six kilos,” emphasized the BVB star.

“Staring at the wall”

He missed both the game against Bochum (3:1) and the game in Heidenheim (0:0). Because of his illness, he couldn’t even do any exercise or keep fit. The illness was a challenge for both the body and the mind. “It takes a while, you get impatient, stare at the wall and don’t eat. “That’s not great for the season,” explained the BVB star.

The way back to the pitch was obviously not easy for Brandt. It felt like he “didn’t do anything for six weeks. It’s not that easy with the air.” He played for almost half an hour and came into the game in the 66th minute. In the coming weeks, Brandt will slowly increase his workload again.
