Borussia Dortmund threatens DFB fiasco – will almost everything go wrong?

Things are getting serious – really serious! The European Championships are coming up in Germany in a few months. The DFB team’s appearances were actually supposed to be BVB festivals. On paper, Borussia Dortmund has the largest block of players of any club.

However, the reality is completely different. Of a total of ten players who have already played an international match, only a small fraction are likely to be part of the European Championship. The remaining Germans at Borussia Dortmund must be trembling mightily.

Borussia Dortmund: Trio probably safe

Out of ten players, only three Dortmund players are safe. Niclas Füllkrug in particular has little competition for his position up front. Also because he played well at BVB recently, it can be assumed that he will be nominated as things stand.

Mats Hummels and Julian Brandt are also considered to be the players with the best chances. Hummels was only reactivated for the national team last autumn – so why should the Dortmund defense boss be discarded again? And Julian Brandt has also always been part of the national team’s squad.

Can and Co. wobble dangerously

But then there are a number of players who have to tremble. On the one hand, because they are not always selected for the national team. On the other hand, because their performance at Borussia Dortmund is not always at the level expected of them.

These professionals include Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Süle and Emre Can. Schlotterbeck and Can were no longer part of the DFB squad; Süle was nominated but was not allowed to play. Instead, his fitness was always the subject of discussion.

In order to have a chance at the home European Championship, all three have to deliver and play regularly at Borussia Dortmund in the second half of the season. Otherwise it will be quite difficult for them.

Borussia Dortmund: Quartet without a chance

However, the quartet of Marius Wolf, Youssoufa Moukoko, Karim Adeyemi and Felix Nmecha currently have no chance at all. Adeyemi and Nmecha were missing and have been injured for a few weeks – and were previously unable to impress in terms of sport. Wolf and Moukoko, on the other hand, have so far only been allowed to wear the eagle on their chest in exceptional cases.

Of course, the race for squad positions at the DFB is far from decided. But if the Borussia Dortmund players don’t step on the gas, the black and yellow team will have a very meager European Championship result.
