Through a video published on social networks then a run on the Fiorano circuit, Ferrari presented this Tuesday its new single-seater, called SF-24, with the objective of correcting the mistakes seen in 2023 and trying to pull the plug. maximum of the opportunities that will present themselves.

Scuderia Ferrari is in working order. After the turbulence linked to the announcement of the arrival of Lewis Hamilton in 2025, the Italian team launched its 2024 season with the presentation of its new single-seater, which bears the name SF-24, the first entirely designed under the leadership by Frédéric Vasseur and his technical director Enrico Cardile. This was done in two stages with a video published on social networks then the first laps on the Fiorano circuit with Carlos Sainz Jr then Charles Leclerc.

The matte red that has become the trademark in Maranello is making a comeback while certain elements remain carbon black. However, white and yellow lines appear as a nod to the colors of the 499P prototype which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year. The shapes of the SF-24 result directly from the latest developments made to the 2023 single-seater, which had experienced a resurgence in form leading to the Spaniard’s victory on the streets of Singapore. Additionally, some concepts seen on other cars last season have been adopted by the Scuderia.

Vasseur: “Be much more opportunistic”

A form of continuity in the work carried out at the end of the 2023 season that Frédéric Vasseur did not seek to deny. “We must build 2024 on the basis of the last part of the 2023 season, he confided on the sidelines of this presentation. We had a good second half of the season last year, and we also need to focus on the weaknesses of 2023 and be much more opportunistic in terms of points scored. We will focus on that. »

For the coming season, the objective of the Ferrari teams will be to be “ capable of scoring more points, of being more efficient, that’s for sure, but more effective.” This last point is seen as “biggest weakness last year” by the French boss of the Italian team. Admitting without difficulty that there will be “ups and downs, like any team” in the coming months, Frédéric Vasseur ensures that “the most important thing is to remain consistent” et “don’t overreact” to the events that will mark the season.

The SF-24 wanted to be more predictable than its predecessor

Enrico Cardile, for his part, assured that the objective during the development of the SF-24 was to make the lives of pilots less complicated. Indeed, both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz Jr have continued to point out the unpredictability of the 2023 single-seater. “Every part of the car has been redesigned, although our starting point was the direction we took last year in our developmentconfided the technical director of Scuderia Ferrari. We took what the drivers told us and turned those ideas into technical reality, with the aim of giving them a car that was easier to drive and therefore easier to push to the limit. »

To achieve this objective, the Italian technician assured that the Maranello team has set itself “no design constraints other than delivering a solid racing car, which can reproduce on the track what we saw in the wind tunnel.” After the 200 kilometers of “shakedown” authorized by the regulations, Ferrari will now have to wait until February 21 to file the asphalt of Sakhir during pre-season testing.
