HV Volendam, which is in relegation trouble, immediately says goodbye to Zsigmond Makay Sport

“We knew it would be a difficult season, with a young team building up to next year. Now we want to do everything we can to stay in the Premier League. We have to see whether it will have an effect. Ultimately, the girls themselves have to winning matches,” says Jenny Hoogland, on behalf of the Top Sports Committee of HV Volendam on the club website.

Volendam has brought in current assistant coach Maurits van Buren to finish the season and save the club from relegation. With two rounds to go, last-place Volendam has 4 points. This is as many as E&O and one less than PSV. Volendam will play the remaining matches against these direct competitors.

Makay’s response

Zsigmond Makay, who was employed by Volendam for two years, says he understands his premature departure. “Unfortunately, that’s how it works in sports. The group and I didn’t get things going properly and the club spoke to us. We concluded that our ways were going to part. Of course, it was already our last season and we knew that. Having to end early is of course annoying. Of course we wish the ladies and the club all the best.”

At the end of February, HV Volendam announced that starting next season former international Debbie Bont would become the new head coach.
