After the interruption, things went smoothly, but Lions did not really let Volendam come close for a long time. In the final phase, Volendam still came within one point due to a number of errors and time penalties by the Limburgers. A missed penalty throw by Robin Nagtegaal after beautiful goalkeeping work by the excellent Jens Dijkstra ultimately made the decision. Volendam could not overcome that setback and Lions did not relinquish the victory.
Due to the defeat, Lions are almost certainly qualified for the final for the national championship. Volendam is two points behind Aalsmeer with two games to go. Volendam must therefore hope for a misstep from their fellow provincials.
