Delta Air Lines settles with passengers over pandemic flight cancellations

U.S. NEWS

Delta Air Lines and its passengers have settled a lawsuit over canceled flights in the early days of the pandemic.

5 On Your Side dug through the settlement that says some people who asked for a refund during that time were incorrectly told they could only get credits for future travel.

This settlement lets those passengers get a cash refund for unused or partially unused credits plus 7% of the original ticket amount in interest credit.

There are specific requirements to getting a refund through this settlement:

It applies to people who got a credit for a non-refundable ticket for a canceled flight between March 1, 2020 and April 30, 2021.

Customers also had to request a refund for the ticket through Delta’s Customer Care or Refund databases.

Finally, the credits must be unused or partially used as of January 13, 2023.

Here are some key dates to know in this settlement:

Notices will start going out July 17, 2023.

Deadline for settlement class members to opt out is August 31, 2023.

The deadline to submit a claim is September 15, 2023.

A final approval hearing is set for October 5, 2023.

A settlement website will be created to help people figure out if they’re eligible and answer questions.
