“The F-16 is, first of all, a strengthening of our air defense system: the fight against enemy aircraft, missiles and kamikaze drones. As soon as we receive the first batch of aircraft, the issue of air defense will become much easier for us. Of course, these aircraft “This is also a great opportunity to strengthen the activities of our troops also on land and in the Black Sea – air cover – the F-16s will definitely do this effectively,” he said on the telethon.
He also commented on the transfer of ATACMS missiles to Ukraine from the United States. According to him, it is not yet known what type of missiles Kyiv received.
“We can consider two types of these missiles. The first is one that can hit a distance of up to 160 kilometers, its warhead consists of submunitions. A certain cluster warhead that is effective against enemy personnel and unarmored equipment. The second is an aeroballistic missile that is capable of strike at a distance of up to 290 kilometers and is capable of hitting well-fortified targets,” Seleznev noted.
In his opinion, Ukraine could have received both versions of these missiles, since it had already used something similar against Russian targets. “We saw how ATACMS arrived at the location of the troops in the temporarily occupied Luhansk region. There, most likely, they were talking about ATACMS with a cluster warhead. But as for the “Bavovna” in Crimea, it seems that there were arrivals from ATACMS with fragmentation weapons – high-explosive part. In any case, we received a powerful weapon,” Seleznev explained.
