The first explosion killed military personnel. And while putting out the fire, another explosion occurred, as a result of which rescuers were injured.
In Nikolaev, due to an explosion that occurred on April 24 during the reloading of ammunition, two soldiers were killed and two more soldiers were injured. At the same time, five rescuers who arrived to extinguish the fire were injured.
According to the State Bureau of Investigation, law enforcement officers are now investigating criminal proceedings regarding the circumstances of the explosions in the city and the reasons that led to the tragedy.
According to preliminary information, on April 24 in Nikolaev, a detonation occurred in a parking lot during a careless transfer of ammunition by military personnel from one vehicle to another. The explosion killed two soldiers and injured two more. Cars that were near the epicenter of the explosion also caught fire. Already during the fire extinguishing, another explosion occurred due to which five rescuers who came to the call were injured.
Criminal proceedings have been opened regarding violations of the rules for handling weapons (Part 3 of Article 414 of the Criminal Code).
Explosion in Nikolaev
On April 24 in Nikolaev, while extinguishing a fire during which an explosion occurred, 5 rescuers were injured. The State Emergency Service stated that an unknown explosive device exploded, causing the cars to catch fire. While extinguishing the fire, a second detonation occurred and the State Emergency Service employees were injured. On the spot, first aid was provided to them by volunteers of the Nikolaev Rapid Response Unit of the Ukrainian Red Cross Society and an emergency medical team. All victims were taken to the hospital.
