the 6th of May Ukrainian infantrymen receive congratulations on their professional holiday – Infantry Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In 2024, Ukraine again celebrates this holiday in conditions of war, and it is especially important to support and thank the infantrymen we know on this day.
History of the Infantry Day holiday
Infantry Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a young holiday; Ukrainians will celebrate it for the sixth time. The holiday was officially established in 2019 by decree of the then President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko.
The infantry is the largest force in the army. The purpose of the holiday is to honor the courage of soldiers of mechanized, motorized infantry, mountain assault military units and units of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who are now fighting for the liberation of Ukraine from Russian occupation.
Infantry Day is celebrated on May 6, since it was on this day in 1648 that the Cossacks won the Battle of Zhelti Vody. This is the first victorious battle of the National Liberation Struggle led by Bohdan Khmelnytsky.
In addition, May 6 marks the Christian holiday Day of St. George the Victorious, who is considered the patron saint of Ukrainian soldiers.
