Israel’s representative at Eurovision 2024, singer Eden Golan, who had previously named her favorites, performed on the stage of the competition to the dissatisfied roar of the audience. This happened right during the dress rehearsal of the second semi-final.
According to the Times of Israel, the last rehearsal of the second semi-final took place the day before, on May 8. When Eden Golan appeared on stage, Eurofans began to speak out indignantly in her direction, in particular, her performance was accompanied by loud booing.
A video from the scene of the events was circulated online. Spectators began raising Palestinian flags that were banned from the show. Those present were also outraged when the singer switched from English to Hebrew during the last part of the song “Hurricane”. At the same time, many spectators supported Golan with loud applause.
“I am proud to represent my country, especially this year. I have received support and love and I am determined to do my best in the semi-finals tomorrow and nothing will stop me from achieving this goal!” – Eden said after the incident.
The Israeli public broadcaster Kan has already responded to the situation. It is she who coordinates the state’s participation in Eurovision. Kan representatives emphasized that Golan performed well on stage.
“They did not silence her and they will not silence us,” the broadcaster said in a statement.
Today, May 9, it became known that Kan representatives filed a complaint against the European Broadcasting Union due to booing of the singer. They also expressed their dissatisfaction with the actions of the Swedish broadcaster SVT.
Eurofans assume that during the second semi-final, which will take place on May 9, the incident will be repeated and Eden Golan will perform to an outrageous roar.
