Residents along the Texas coast are being asked to be on the lookout for mysterious wooden blocks painted orange after wildlife researchers uncovered their purpose. The mysterious objects were intended to study turtles. UPI writes about this.

The blocks are painted in various bright colors. Most were orange, but they could also be pink, yellow or green. Some people thought that the discarded objects might have been a call for help from some shipwrecked sailor.

Katherine Pollock of the Gulf Sea Turtle Research Center later said on social media that the blocks were “wooden effigies” designed to imitate sea turtles in an attempt to understand how weather conditions and ocean currents influence the animals’ annual strandings.

“A total of 80 drift decoys have been released off Chandeleur Island, Laos, and more than half are heading toward the Texas coast. Four have already been found this week in our area,” the center said in a statement.

The message asks anyone who finds the orange-painted wooden block to contact the Gulf center to collect data for research.

Previously Focus reported that a favorite tourist destination had turned into a ghost town. There is a settlement in the desert, whose inhabitants have suffered in recent years due to constant flows of dust and the drying up of the salt lake. People are afraid for their health and the health of their loved ones.

It also became known that a mysterious purple stone was found in ancient Roman ruins. Lead archaeologist Frank Jicco said the find was of international significance. Rare dye made from snail shells for the clothing of the Roman elite almost 2,000 years ago has been discovered at a cricket club.
