Pensions in Ukraine – who will lose the last 10 years of service

Pensions in Ukraine - who will lose the last 10 years of service War in Ukraine news

According to the Ministry of Social Policy, problems may arise for pensioners if they have worked for the aggressor state since 2014.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill that solves several problematic issues related to the assignment of pension payments. This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Social Policy.

We are talking about bill No. 9453, which was developed by the Ministry of Social Policy. The fact is that after the start of a full-scale invasion, Ukraine decided to sever all diplomatic relations with Russia. Accordingly, all contacts and document flow between government agencies of the countries were suspended.

This list also includes the Pension Fund. That is, the exchange of documents that indicate the length of work experience and the amount of earnings is virtually impossible.

“Ukrainians who moved to Ukraine from the temporarily occupied territories of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Donetsk and Lugansk regions could not fulfill the requirement of the law that is still in force – to confirm that they do not receive a pension from the pension authorities of the Russian Federation, and accordingly receive a pension in Ukraine,” – the message says.

Now it is possible to take into account years of work abroad even without a pension agreement between Ukraine and another country. You can provide a document with data on periods of legal work abroad, thereby confirming your work experience.

In addition, the adopted bill will correct the situation that arose after Ukraine left the CIS agreement. Work experience after 1991 will be counted, but earnings and insurance premiums paid abroad will not be taken into account when calculating pension payments.

“From now on, a person who has moved from Crimea just needs to submit an application noting that he does not receive a pension in Crimea and wants to receive it in Ukraine. To calculate the pension, you can provide a work book or pension file (if you have them on hand). Confirmation is not required from the Pension Fund of the aggressor country,” the explanation says.

There are also exceptions. Restrictions will be imposed on the length of service over the past 10 years, since the Russian invasion, for persons who served in the military forces of Russia. We are also talking about those who worked in judicial or law enforcement agencies in the occupied territories, as well as if they held positions in government bodies in the occupied lands.

Let us remind you that on April 25 it was announced when pensioners would receive additional payments for length of service. Although there are no plans for indexation in June, an age increase will be awarded for persons aged 70 years and older.
