War in Ukraine news

The Russian Ministry of Defense received a batch of Plastun-SN vehicles, which should perform several tasks from evacuating the wounded to reconnaissance.

The Russian Federation has handed over a batch of Plastun-SN tracked all-terrain vehicles, which should be used to evacuate the wounded. Tank historian Andrei Tarasenko reports this on his Telegram channel.

Russian troops received a batch of all-terrain vehicles, which were developed as civilian trucks. The prefix “CH” means “special purpose”. “Plastun-SV” is positioned as a lightly armored all-terrain vehicle for the evacuation of wounded, a reconnaissance vehicle or a self-propelled 82-mm mortar.

The vehicle’s armor is combined and protects against bullets from 9x19mm to 7.62x39mm. The all-terrain vehicle can accommodate 8 soldiers: 4 rescuers, 2 wounded and 2 crew members. It is stated that one Plastun-SV is currently being manufactured per week. By the end of 2023, the manufacturer expects to produce 50 cars.

The all-terrain vehicle has a body layout without a hard roof, which can have a very negative impact on the survivability of the vehicle during attacks by kamikaze drones or debris from shelling. To protect the crew from bad weather, there is a special waterproof awning and an easily removable frame.

The vehicles were manufactured by order of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The challenge for the manufacturer was to make it easy and quick to enter or exit, load the stretcher, and deploy the mortar. Additional armor increased the weight of the vehicle by 3800 kg. The maximum speed is 50 km/h, and the recommended speed is 30 km/h.

Let us remind you that on September 28, the Ukrainian Armed Forces showed how the BvS 10 Viking all-terrain vehicle crosses the river with ease.

On September 6, volunteers showed a converted UAZ “Bukhanka” into a tracked all-terrain vehicle.
