Relations between Great Britain and the Russian Federation - Cameron does not believe in the return of normal relations with Putin - UNIAN War in Ukraine news

According to the diplomat, there can no longer be normal diplomatic relations with the current ruler of the Russian Federation.

The UK can no longer have normal diplomatic relations with the current ruler of Russia, Vladimir Putin. This was stated by British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, reports the Independent.

According to him, the reason for this state of affairs, in particular, was the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“When I became prime minister (2010 – UNIAN), we had a difficult relationship with Russia, and I thought it would be right to try and see if we could build a stronger relationship, but in the end it broke down because because of what Russia did in Syria, because of what Putin did in Ukraine back in 2014. By the time I left office, relations with Russia were in a pretty bad situation, but because of what he did. Putin, since then, he has obviously behaved even worse,” the diplomat said.

He drew a parallel between the UK’s relations with the Russian Federation and the Kingdom’s relations with China.

“From China’s point of view, it is right that we cooperate, that we trade, that we discuss things with them, but this is a completely different situation that we face today. We had the Uyghurs, we had the situation with Hong Kong, we had “Wolf Warrior diplomacy and it is right that we defend ourselves against Chinese efforts that have been made, for example, to undermine our democracy,” Cameron said.

The publication notes that the Foreign Minister’s statement came at a time when the UK was accused of helping Moscow “pay for its war” in Ukraine by importing record volumes of refined oil from countries that process Russian fuel.
