Slovak carriers blocked the checkpoint on the border with Ukraine

War in Ukraine news

According to the State Border Guard Service, at 13:30, traffic was blocked for trucks moving in the direction of the Slovak checkpoint “Vyshne Nemecke”, adjacent to the Ukrainian checkpoint “Uzhgorod”.

In Slovakia, carriers began to prevent trucks from passing through the Vysne Nemecke checkpoint. This was announced by the speaker of the State Border Service Andriy Demchenko in a commentary to Ukrainskaya Pravda.

“According to information received from the Border Police of the Slovak Republic, today at 13.30 the blocking of traffic for freight vehicles moving in the direction of the Slovak checkpoint “Vyshne Nemecke”, adjacent to the Ukrainian checkpoint “Uzhgorod” began. It was initiated and carried out by the Union of Carriers of Slovakia. The timing of the blocking has not been reported, although it is not excluded that such actions by Slovak carriers could be long-term,” he said.

Demchenko said that currently Ukrainian border guards are actively monitoring the development of the situation and improving coordination with their Soviet colleagues on the issue of further procedures for passing cargo vehicles across the border. They are also working to clarify the criteria for allowing the passage of different categories of cargo.

Currently, there are about 300 cargo vehicles on the territory of Slovakia in front of the Vysne Nemecke checkpoint in the direction of Ukraine.

On November 6, Polish carriers staged a protest and blocked the movement of trucks to checkpoints. Because of this strike, large queues of trucks formed on the roads to the checkpoints. It was reported that organizers were allowing only one truck per hour through.

Among the main demands of carriers: the return of permits, tightening transportation rules, gaining access to the Shlyakh system and creating separate queues for empty trucks.
