War in Ukraine news

Losses of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in military equipment in the Avdeevka area could exceed losses during the crossing of the Seversky Donets in May 2022 and, probably, losses in the Ugledar area in the period from November 2022 to April 2023, analysts said.

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation could lose more than 109 units of military equipment near Avdeevka, Donetsk region, in the period from October 10 to October 20. This was reported by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War in their daily report for October 25.

Analysts noted that on October 23, a Ukrainian reserve officer, publishing satellite images, confirmed that the occupiers lost more than 109 units of military equipment near Avdiivka from October 10 to 20. He noted that the enemy lost the most armored fighting vehicles, namely BMP-1, BMP-2 and MT-LB. Also among the losses are T-72, T-64, T-80 tanks, armored personnel carriers and other vehicles.

According to an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the losses of the Russian military in equipment in the Avdeevka area exceeded the losses during the unsuccessful crossing of the Seversky Donets in May 2022 and, probably, losses in the Ugledar area in the period from November 2022 to April 2023. In addition, he stated, that the enemy may have lost about ten additional vehicles, which were not counted due to inconsistencies in the images, and, citing two unidentified independent sources, noted that the Russian Armed Forces may have lost about 200 military vehicles at Avdievka.

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War reported that on October 25, the Russian Armed Forces launched an offensive in the Avdeevka area. While the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces stated that the enemy unsuccessfully attacked near Stepnoye. On October 25, a Russian military correspondent noted that the Russian Armed Forces allegedly achieved “serious tactical success” near Stepnoye and on the outskirts of Avdievka and advanced to the railway line north of the city. Another military correspondent said that the Russian military is advancing from Krasnogorovka to Novokalinovo. The Russian side claimed that the Russian Armed Forces control the Avdeevka waste heap, but the head of the Avdeevka city military administration, Vitaly Barabash, denied this information and said that the waste heap is a “gray zone.” Also on October 25, a Ukrainian military official said that former military personnel from the Wagner PMC could be fighting near Avdiivka, but analysts have not found evidence of this.

The Institute for the Study of War added that on October 24, a Russian military correspondent said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces counterattacked and pushed Russian forces back from Berdichev, which is 10 kilometers northwest of Avdeevka.
