The actor was widely known on screen after roles in such series as Silent Witness and Doctor Who. Ian Gelder had been battling cancer for months.

British actor Ian Gelder, who played Kevan Lannister in Game of Thrones, died on May 6 at the age of 74 after a battle with cancer. This was announced by his husband, fellow actor Ben Daniels, writes Express.

“It is with great sadness and a heavy heart, broken into a million pieces, that I am writing this post to announce the passing of my beloved husband and life partner Ian Gelder. Ian was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in December and passed away at 1:07 pm yesterday. I stopped all work to look after him, but neither of us had any idea it would all happen so quickly. He has been an absolute rock to me and we have been partners for over 30 years,” his devastated partner wrote. Ben Daniels noted that Gelder was a wonderful actor and a kind and generous person.

In addition to his theater work, Gelder has been widely known on screen since the 1970s. Over the decades, he had roles in shows such as Rumpole of the Bailey, The Burning of London and Van der Valk. He also starred in Silent Witness, EastEnders, Mr Selfridge and His Dark Materials and Snatch. In 2009, he cemented his place as a cult television icon by playing Mr Decker in the Doctor Who spin-off, Torchwood: Children of Earth.

Let us remind you that on May 5 it was reported that the actor of “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings” Bernard Hill had passed away. The cause of death is unknown.
