Apparently, the former owners wanted to take the dog to the shelter, but the establishment was closed that day, so they left the animal to its fate.
Black German Shepherd Phoenix desperately tried to catch up with her former owners’ car as they left her at the Country Living caravan park in Fresno, California, USA. The video captured by surveillance cameras made many people cry, writes the Daily Mail.
Trailer park assistant manager Patricia Harvey remembers being horrified when she saw footage of Phoenix being left in the parking lot. Apparently, the former owners wanted to take the puppy to the shelter, but the facility was closed that day, so they left her to fend for herself.
The puppy was later taken to a local animal welfare center. He was rescued by 33-year-old Meredith Ginzig-Hayes, an emergency physician and founder of the nonprofit Regional Deployed K9 Inc and Equine Rescue.
“That video breaks my heart, but I learn about such things every day because of my work. The only difference is that in this case you can see everything with your own eyes. I felt that we had to save this dog, no matter what. Now I’ve already found potential guardian if Phoenix can’t stay with me,” says Ginzig-Hayes.
The woman hopes that the German shepherd will soon be able to undergo special training and become a therapy dog to help patients in hospitals and hospices.
By the way, according to California law, leaving an animal unattended is considered a misdemeanor. The case is now being investigated by the police.
Let us remind you that earlier Focus wrote that a scandal broke out in a Chinese zoo over chow-chow dogs that were painted to look like pandas so as not to disappoint visitors. The so-called “panda dogs” were placed in an enclosure and shown to an admiring public every day from 8 am to 5 pm.
In addition, the owner of a golden retriever, Carol DeBruler, who runs the Golden Treasures kennel in Florida (USA), published a viral video on TikTok with a puppy of an unnatural lime green color. The dog was born special, while the rest of his brothers and sisters were the expected golden hue.
