The West provided Ukraine with fewer weapons than it should have. If Ukraine fails, peace in Europe will be at risk. This was stated by Latvian President Edgars Rinkevich in an interview with the Associated Press.

He noted that Russia has set its sights on a long war in Ukraine, so the West must also fight for peace in Europe.

“If we stop Russia in Ukraine, then Russia will not be able to challenge other countries. It will be much easier for us to maintain peace in Europe if Ukraine succeeds than if we fail Ukraine, or for that matter, allow the situation in the Middle East get out of control,” Rinkevich emphasized.

The President of Latvia noted that the Ukrainians are fighting “very bravely,” so the West is obliged to respond to Kyiv’s calls for more weapons. However, he admitted that “we did not provide as much [оружия]as much as they should have.”

Western support for Ukraine – latest news

As UNIAN wrote, the EU will not be able to fulfill its promise to supply a million ammunition to Ukraine. Back in the spring, the bloc pledged to supply 1 million artillery ammunition within a year, but it is already clear that the goal turned out to be unattainable.

Meanwhile, the US is providing smaller and smaller arms packages due to gridlock in Congress. The money that was allocated to support Ukraine is already running out, and the new program still cannot be adopted.
