Prague – In the 29th round of the first league, Sparta’s football players defeated Ostrava in a shootout 4:3 and consolidated their lead in the table. The defending champions increased their lead over second-placed Slavia to five points, but Prague’s Letenské rivals have Sunday’s match against Olomouc to look forward to. The other three duels of the penultimate round of the regular season ended in a draw. Teplice drew with České Budějovice 2:2, the newcomer from Karviná with Bohemians 1905 1:1 and Jablonec broke up with Zlín without goals.

In the second half, the Spartans twice led by three goals over Baník, but the guests dramatized the duel in the end. Jan Kuchta scored two goals, Veljko Birmančevič and substitute Lukáš Haraslín scored once for the home team. Jiří Klíma and substitute Filip Kubala scored for Slezany, Prague captain Ladislav Krejčí scored an own goal.

Since April 2018, Sparta and Baník have not lost 15 games in a row in the league. If Slavia surprisingly stumbles against Olomouc on Sunday, Letenští would already be assured of first place after the regular part of the competition. Ostrava lost after four league matches, but they cannot lose the fourth place in this round.

Teplice lost to České Budějovice from the 25th minute after an own goal by Lukáš Mareček, but before halftime Daniel Fila and Štěpán Chaloupek managed to turn things around with goals. In the 67th minute, Jan Suchan equalized from the penalty spot.

The North Bohemians, who were already certain before the match that they would avoid the group for rescue in the superstructure, remained in 10th place in the incomplete table. Only a highly improbable points match between several teams would give them hope for a title group. České Budějovice did not lose for the third time in a row in the league and kept one point ahead of last place Karvina.

The Silesian newcomer to the competition against Bohemians 1905 did not use a long power play after Ondřej Petrák was sent off in the 39th minute and drew for the third time in a row. In the 54th minute, the home team was outnumbered by substitute Prague student Lukáš Budínský, and Erik Prekop soon equalized for the visitors from the penalty spot.

Vršovičtí already scored their 11th tie in the league season and, together with Jablonec, are the “tie kings” of the competition. The “kangaroos” won only one of the last 14 rounds, and after last year’s fourth place, only the group is waiting for rescue in the superstructure. They can no longer reach the elite ten.

In addition to Karviná, Jablonec did not use the long power play against Zlín either, which played without the suspended Selmir Pidro from the 37th minute. The North Bohemians were outnumbered for the second time in a row, last time they even lost in Olomouc.

The match between Jablonec and Zlín in the league ended in a tie for the eighth time in a row. The North Bohemians scored points after a series of four league defeats and remained in 12th place in the incomplete table. “Shoemakers” are two places lower with a four-point loss.

On Sunday, there are four remaining games of the penultimate round of the regular season on the program. Slavia will welcome Olomouc, Liberec will host Hradec Králové, Pardubice will face Mladá Boleslav and Slovácko will challenge Pilsen.
