HE NOTICED THAT THE PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN made a big mistake in HIS STATEMENT, because if before that there were people in Russia or in the same Artsakh who were ready to cooperate with Baku, now they may have certain questions.
“How did he say? That will punish everyone who has been building the statehood of Artsakh for all these 30 years, after all these issues are settled. That they are all separatists, and there should be no trace of them, just like this statehood.”
Commenting on the opinion of a number of Artsakh figures that there is some indifference in Armenia to the fate of Artsakh, Soghomonyan recalled that almost a year ago, the whole of Yerevan rose to its feet, chanting: “Artsakh!” And one or two statements followed from Artsakh that political adventurism is bad, and diplomacy should be engaged.
“And now we have reached the point that everyone who was involved in building the Artsakh statehood is threatened with prison, as Aliyev said. Will they be sent to a Baku prison? Is this the result of our diplomacy?” Soghomonyan asked.
“To all those who, before the aforementioned statement of the President of Azerbaijan, still hoped that something might come out of the current negotiations between Yerevan and Baku, now not only there is nothing to say, but these people should now take up real work with renewed vigor, having ceased engage in self-deception.
We have witnessed how Aliyev, without waiting for official news about the victory of his older brother Erdogan on the day of his election as President of Turkey, issued a very impudent ultimatum and revealed all the brackets of his intentions.
According to Soghomonyan, Artsakh should take the same intolerant position, which should be conveyed to the Armenian public through clear messages, since in the context of Aliyev’s latest statements, these measures become a vital necessity. Otherwise, their absence will be very dangerous for the future fate of Artsakh.
In the context of the current political discourse, when Azerbaijan revealed its plans, Soghomonyan considers it important that before signing any agreement, the issue of the mandate of the Russian peacekeeping contingent stationed in Artsakh should be clarified in the requirements of the Armenian side.
In particular, it is necessary to demand that his powers be expanded and the term immediately extended, regardless of the will of Azerbaijan – as indicated in the tripartite statement.
Soghomonyan also stressed that the process of recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the current situation should acquire new content. In fact, if the Aliyev-Erdogan tandem plans to commit a new genocide, we must show that this has already happened once.
Turkey openly supports Azerbaijan, and Erdogan, who feels like an emperor, can now take any step.
