“If a person has gastritis, a stomach ulcer and other diseases of the digestive tract, then the tongue can change color to grayish white. Plaque is usually localized in the posterior parts of the organ, but sometimes it can capture the entire surface. In diseases of the liver, the metabolism of bile pigments, the breakdown products of blood proteins, is disrupted. As a result, the soft tissues of the body, including the mucous membrane of the tongue, are stained in a characteristic yellow color, ”says the specialist.
A dry tongue with orange-yellow spots can signal diabetes mellitus, and too pale can signal iron deficiency anemia.
“Patients also face a change in language with the so-called “geographic tongue”, or, as it is called in medicine, desquamative glossitis, this is the formation of bright red foci with a white border, furrows and cracks on the body of the tongue. Such foci can migrate from one area of the language to another, ”Kashukh said, admitting that the reasons for the appearance of such formations are still not exactly known to science.
