Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a new $500 million military aid package for Ukraine during a visit to Kyiv. He also promised to transfer to Ukraine the Russian An-124 transport aircraft, which was detained last year in Canada. Suspilny’s correspondent reports this from the scene.

“Since last year, we have provided (Ukraine – ed.) more than $ 8 billion, also more than a billion dollars of military assistance. In addition, our budget has been expanded to two billion in loans to the government of Ukraine in order to support Ukraine, reconstruction and reconstruction. We will provide 500 million dollars of new funding for military aid,” he said.

In particular, Canada will transfer 287 additional missiles to the Defense Forces to protect the skies of Ukraine, and 10,000 155-mm shells, the prime minister said. Trudeau also said that Canada will take part in a multinational effort to train Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets, as well as the Leopard tank control exercise initiative.

In addition, the head of the Canadian government promised to continue sanctions pressure on Russia. In particular, he promised to transfer to Ukraine the Russian An-124 transport aircraft, which was detained last year in Canada.

Trudeau also promised to introduce new sanctions against the Russian Federation.

“To date, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 2,500 organizations and individuals, and today we are announcing a new package of sanctions against 24 people and 17 organizations as part of special economic measures for Ukraine,” he said.

Trudeau also condemned Russia for destroying the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam. He promised to provide financial assistance to Ukraine

“We saw the catastrophic consequences associated with the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam. These were direct consequences of the Russian war. To help, I am today announcing $ 10 million in funding support, as well as an additional $ 7.5 million of already identified assistance to Ukraine to respond to the flood,” – said the Prime Minister of Canada.
