• The State Duma Defense Committee recommended the adoption of a draft law on raising the draft age. It is expected to increase to 30 years from 2024.

At the same time, a transition period is provided: the minimum draft threshold in 2024 will be 19 years, in 2025 – 20 years, and only from 2026 – 21 years. It is also assumed that adult men who have not reached military age will be able to voluntarily sign up for military service.

The document was introduced by Krasnoyarsk State Duma deputy Yuri Shvytkin, as well as Andrey Kartapolov and Andrey Krasov, a native of Weimar, Germany (all United Russia).

• The official death toll from the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station on the left bank of the Russian-controlled Dnieper has risen to seven, according to Kremlin-appointed acting head of the Russian administration of the Kherson region, Vladimir Saldo.

• The Basmanny District Court of Moscow sent six activists detained in the case of the Vesna* movement to a pre-trial detention center (in December 2022, the City Court of St. Petersburg recognized it as extremist and banned its activities in Russia). Yan Ksenzhepolsky, Evgeny Zateev, Valentin Khoroshenin, Vasily Neustroev, Pavel Sinelnikov and Anna Arkhipova were under arrest (the last two were taken from Barnaul and Novosibirsk).

Criminal cases were opened against young people for “organizing an extremist community” (part 1 of article 282.1 of the Criminal Code), “rehabilitation of Nazism” on the Internet (part 4 of article 354.1 of the Criminal Code), “public calls to carry out activities directed against the security of the state ”(Part 3 of Article 280.4 of the Criminal Code) and “fakes” about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (clause “b”, Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code).
