Construction of the Dinopedia theme park interrupted by prefectural decree World news

A few months ago, a handful of groups protested in the Ain commune of Trévoux against the construction of a fourth Dinopedia prehistoric park, while the work was progressing well.

But the regional prefecture, having taken up the matter, put a stop to the maneuvers, which were taking place without a large number of authorizations. This Thursday, May 9, the workers on site saw the police put an end to the operations.

At the heart of the prefectural decree, the noise and environmental nuisance that the park could produce, going against the Environmental Code: the work provided for substantial developments, capable of accommodating 500 people per day on average, on a period of 200 days per year, “ or 100,000 visitors.”

Built on the former site of an aquatic leisure center, but also on natural environments, the land is prone to flooding and close to a biodiversity reservoir. As the park did not present an inventory of fauna and flora, or precise projections and impact assessment, the prefecture and the Regional Directorate for the Environment, Development and Housing (DREAL) established the need to interrupt development activities.

What’s more, health and noise issues have been highlighted: colonization of the town by the tiger mosquito for six years, residential area 70m from infrastructure dedicated to entertainment. From an environmental point of view, it was noted the total absence of projections concerning the greenhouse gas emissions generated by the project, or of measures aimed at reducing it.

If the prefecture’s requests for the resumption of work are numerous (more precise projections, analysis of impacts, terrain, etc.), the collectives do not stop there, and continue to demonstrate for the definitive closure of the project, for ” protect the sector » and the natural heritage of Trévoux.
