Corpolítica: documentary shows candidacy experience

World news

The film Corpolítica, by Pedro Henrique França, premieres this Thursday (8) in movie theaters across the country. The documentary delves into the experience of six LGBTQIA+ candidates in the 2020 municipal elections and highlights the concept of political representation. The focus of the work is to investigate the low number of LGBTQIA+ people in public spaces.

“We have a – very dangerous – non-political discourse. We have people who still insist that they don’t want to talk about politics, and this film is a call to talk about politics”, said Pedro.

He participated in the program Central do Brasil this Thursday (8) and commented on the difficulty of the LGBTQIA+ public to participate in the elections and the ways to increase this representativeness.

“Apolitical discourse is dangerous because it distances us. When we talk about underrepresentation, we talk about female underrepresentation, LGBTQIA+, blacks, indigenous people. “.

In addition to noting these obstacles within the political arena for the LGBTQIA+ population, Paulo states that the film tries to encourage this participation and serve as an inspiration for the emergence of new forms of political activity.

“The film is, without a doubt, a hug. It is a light at the end of the tunnel. Politics can be done with beauty, with affection, with love and with the seriousness that this place deserves”, he concluded.
