A few days ago, a story appeared in the media about the death of 33-year-old Dorota, who died suddenly in Poland. Dorota was expecting her first child, and on May 21, when she was five months pregnant, she went to the Podhalanski Hospital because she started to lose amniotic fluid, believing that she and the child would receive appropriate help there and that the whole story would have a positive ending.
But on the night of May 23 to 24, her condition suddenly worsened, she contracted sepsis and died. “As we have been informed, the cause of death is septic shock with multiple organ failure,” the family of the deceased told Gazeta Wyborcza. The hospital has already issued a statement, expressing its condolences to the family of the 33-year-old woman and stating that it is “open to cooperation with the authorities to clarify the circumstances of the patient’s sudden death.”

The family, as well as many citizens, blame the doctors and the state of the country for this situation. “How many more tragedies must there be? How many women’s lives must be sacrificed? No wonder women are afraid to get pregnant in this sick medieval country,” one social media user wrote.
“This death should not have happened”, “I am speechless, animals in nature have a better chance of survival during childbirth than women in our hospitals”, “It is terrible, 3 days without amniotic fluid? What were the doctors waiting for?” wrote others in the comments. Many blame not only the doctors but also the current government and are convinced that the 33-year-old woman would not have died if the fetus had been removed immediately after the loss of amniotic fluid.
