The British Ministry of Defense reports on the intensification of hostilities in Ukraine. In addition, an aggravation of the dispute between the Wagner mercenary forces and the Russian army is reported.

Escalation of hostilities in Ukraine: Fighting between Ukrainian and Russian troops in Ukraine has intensified recently, according to British estimates. “Over the past 48 hours, hostilities have noticeably intensified on numerous sectors of the front, including those that have been relatively calm for several months,” the UK Ministry of Defense said, citing intelligence. London did not provide further details, including whether the fighting is linked to an expected Ukrainian counteroffensive.
Instead, the ministry said the dispute between the Wagner PMC and the Russian army had reached an “unprecedented level.” For the first time, Wagner commander Yevgeny Prigozhin said that regular troops in Ukraine deliberately attacked his units. In response, Wagner allegedly detained a Russian officer for transfer to the military prosecutor’s office.
Most of Wagner’s forces have already withdrawn from the town of Bakhmut, which has been fighting for months, London said in a statement. PMC Wagner captured Bakhmut and recently announced that he would leave the city completely under the control of Moscow’s regular troops. “Given Russia’s lack of reserve units, how Wagner continues to respond to the MoD will be a key factor in the conflict in the coming weeks,” the British ministry writes.
Since the very beginning of Russia’s aggressive war, the British Ministry of Defense has been publishing daily information on the course of the war against Ukraine, referring to intelligence data. They see it as the British government’s way of countering the Russian narrative and keeping allies in line. Moscow accuses London of a disinformation campaign.
